About the game:
Tromius is an action-platformer with light metroidvania mechanics, styled after classic gameboy games like Metroid II and R-Type.
Far in the future, the corporate monolith AEON dominates human society, owning the vast majority of all habitable planets. Intent on expanding their domain, AEON strikes up a deal with various galactic prison colonies, trading prisoners for assets. These prisoners serve as AEON's involuntary exploration force, being dispatched to various planets to explore and conquer.
The protagonist is one such soldier, sent on a mission to subdue a planet with a strange hive minded property. You must travel deep into it's depths, and find the root of this power.
This is a solo dev project, everything for the game was made in 10 days for GBJAM 12. The secondary theme for this jam was "spooky", which I took in the direction of space horror and creature horror, aiming to evoke a similar ambience to Metroid 1 and 2's (not prime) hauntingly empty aesthetic. I mainly focused on making the combat system authentic to something from the Gameboy era, being challenging but not entirely unforgiving.
Note about saves:
The windows exe version of the game creates a text file in your %appdata$ folder to store your save, so your progress will persist when you close the window. The HTML 5 version just uses persistent memory, so when you close the window you'll lose your progress. When you die you can still load your save though, don't worry.
